A 1-0 win over Manchester United further intensified the Blues' grip
on the top spot in the Premier League and now look on course to win
the crown.
Chelsea are just weeks away from claiming their first Premier League
titlesince 2010.
After defeating Manchester United 1-0 at Stamford Bridgeon
Saturday, they are now agonisingly close to confirming their status as
the 2014/15 Premier League champions.
Following the game, Jose Mourinho insisted that his team were 'nearly
there', as they entered the final stretch of the season.
But when exactly can they officially claim the title? Can they really
do it against Liverpool?
Here is everything that you need to know.
As it stands, Chelsea have a 10-point lead over Arsenal in second
place, having now played the same amount of games as well.
Interestingly, the gap can be closed by the Gunners themselves next
weekend, as Jose Mourinho takes his team to the Emirates to take on
their closest challengers.
So, in order to work out when Chelsea can win the league, we have
split it down into the three different situations following the game
between Arsenal and Chelsea.
If Chelsea beat Arsenal...
Should Chelsea come away with a victory from the game against Arsenal,
they would be just two points away from the title.
That means that week, they could be officially named champions by
beating Leicester City in the midweek.
That win would take Chelsea up to 82 points, whereas Arsenal would
only able to get a maximum of 81.
If Chelsea and Arsenal draw...
Should the pair draw the game at the Emirates, Arsenal would still be
able to reach a maximum points tally of 82 points.
That would mean that if Chelsea defeat Leicester, they can claim the
title by defeating Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge the following
Sunday in front of the TV cameras.
If Chelsea lose to Arsenal...
Arsenal will be looking to prolong the title race by beating Chelsea
and if they are successful, there could be a few nervous moments for
the Blues.
Chelsea would be on 76 points, needing 85 in total to claim the title.
That means that three wins would do the trick.
Victory over Leicester, followed by a win over Crystal Palace would
mean that the Blues would officially be named champions if they win at
home against Liverpool on May 10, with two games to spare.
