President Goodluck Jonathan and the President-elect, General Muhammadu
Buhari are holding a closed-door meeting at the State House in Abuja.
The focus of the meeting, which is holding at the new Banquet Hall of
the State House is not yet known.
It is however envisaged that the meeting will discuss issues on smooth
transition and the handover ceremony fixed forMay 29.
Meanwhile, a joint committee on the outgoing and incoming government
meton Thursdayto discuss issues on smooth transition
General Buhari arrived for the meeting around3.08pm.
Before his arrival, the president had moved from his office to the venue.
President Goodluck Jonathan has proposed a tour of the presidential
villa with President-elect Muhammadu Buhari.
The two leaders met Friday behind closed-doors in the state house, Abuja.
Though the president and the president-elect did not disclose the
details of their meeting to journalists, sources hinted that it was
about the May 29 transition programme.
The Friday meeting numbers two since March 28 elections, won by Gen. Buhari.
Speaking after the meeting, President Jonathan told journalists who
sought to know what they discussed that a date would be scheduled to
take Mr. Buhari on a familiarisation tour of the Aso Rock presidential
villa.
He said, "We will take a date when the president will come and I will
show him round the state house but today is not for that. Today is to
continue with our conversation. We don't need to worry the President,"
he said.
Asked how fruitful their conversion was, the president said "You can
see that we are smiling, it was a fruitful one".
President Jonathan however said the discussions were "in the interest
of the country".
When the journalists approach Buhari for comment, he said: "The
president (Jonathan) has said it all".
The meeting is in continuation of ongoing arrangements between the
outgoing government and the incoming government for a smooth
transition as well as the inauguration.
Gen. Buhari was accompanied by the national chairman of the All
Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Odigie Oyegun and a stalwart of the
party, General Abdulrahman Dambazau.
