Senator Muhammad Jibrillah Bindow Sunday won the Adamawa governorship
primary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) after polling 2718
votes to defeat his closest rival, Alhaji Ibrahim Mijinyawa Yayaji
2268.
According to results declared by the Chairman of the Electoral
Committee, Dr Garba Abari, Boss Mustapha polled 515 votes to come
third while Ahmed Barata, also a serving Senator representing Adamawa
South, got 452 votes .
Yakubu Tsalla and Emmanuel Bello got 147 and 50 votes respectively,
Mr. Abari said.
The chairman also said 6,232 electorates were accredited for the
bye-election with a total of 6,190 votes cast while the election
recorded 42 invalid votes.
He praised the commitment of party loyalists who demonstrated high
sense of political maturity throughout the duration of the electoral
process and called for same during the October gubernatorial poll.
The winner of the election Senator Mohammed Umaru Jibrila appreciated
the role of party followers towards his emergence and assured them
that he will justify the confidence reposed in him.
The candidate, while calling on people of the state to team up with
APC in the quest for positive change that will usher in meaningful
development, promised to use his wealth of experience in improving the
lot of the people.
Mr. Sunny Monidafe, who was an agent for one of the contestants,
commended the electoral officials for the conduct of the election
describing it as free and fair, stressing that the fortunes of the
party are enormous in future elections.
With this result, Senator Mohammed Jibrila Bindow will fight it out
with the acting governor of the state, Hon Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, among
other contestants for the governorship position slated for October 11,
2014.
