THE Transformation Ambassadors of Nigeria, TAN, has said that it is
mobilizing about three million eligible voters in Anambra State for a
rally aimed at promoting President Goodluck Jonathan's 2015 second
term bid.
The proposed rally would be a follow -up to the South East zonal rally
of TAN held in Awka a fortnight ago.
Coordinator of the three million man rally, Chief Uzor Okafor, who is
the Surveyor General of Namibia, said at a sensitization programme
organized by TAN for voters in Anambra Central senatorial zone that
the reason behind the effort to return President Jonathan in next
year's election is to ensure continuity.
Though no date has been chosen for the proposed rally, Okafor said
that various committees that would help to make it a huge success were
already being put in place.
According to him, the good thing is that most voters in the state have
vowed to return Jonathan for a second time by ensuring that he garners
more votes in the state than he did during the 2011 presidential
election.
He said: "The Jonathan presidency has brought so much development in
Nigeria and there is therefore the need for Nigerians to give him
another mandate to continue his good works. Since he mounted the
saddle, there is no part of the country that has not felt the positive
impact of the government.
"Most Nigerians can also testify that the present administration has
improved the economy of the country, improved the nation's road and
railway networks, improved agricultural production and developed
infrastructure in education and other sectors as had never been done
in the past.
"The president has also exhibited maturity in handling the affairs of
the country and remaining focused even when distractions came, which
puts him ahead of other people nursing presidential ambition."
He observed that though the President was yet to declare his intention
to contest in 2015, TAN believes that in the interest of equity,
justice and strict adherence to the rule of law, he has the
constitutional right to vie for a second term in office and expressed
optimism that Nigerians would massively vote for him.
In his address, the TAN coordinator in Anambra Central senatorial
zone, Mr. Michael Joe Onwudinjo said that the group was encouraged by
the large number of eligible voters registering to become members of
TAN, adding that more people were eager to join the train.
Onwudinjo said that despite the large number of people coming to
register in various wards and local government areas, the
sensitization programme would continue until the election is held.
