Imo May Go into Deep Financial Distress --Peter Obi

Imo State, heartland of the South East, is on the verge of bankruptcy,
according to former Anambra State Governor, Mr. Pe-ter Obi.

The blame for this develop-ment should be placed squarely on the
doorstep of the incum-bent Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha of the All
Progres-sives Congress (APC). Obi added.

In reaction the media adviser of Okorocha, Sam Onwuemeodo, told the
Daily Times that Obi is suffering from "Rochas-phobia."

Obi warned that Imo State could go into deep financial cri-sis if
Okorocha is re-elected for a second term. Already, Imo State is
bankrupt, Obi said.

The former Governor who is a chieftain of the Peoples Demo-cratic
Party (PDP), made the statement in Owerri, the Imo State capital, on
Wednesday dur-ing youth town hall meeting of his party.

He expressed concern that in the entire South East, Imo State is
indebted to the tune of N30 bil-lion.

Obi said: "Enugu is not ow-ing, Abia is not owing Anambra is not
owing. As you all know, Ebonyi, which receives the least allocation in
the entire region, justifiably owes just a little while Imo owes a
whopping sum of N30 billion.I left behind about N60 billion.

"We can all guess where the fund is because before Okorocha came into
power three years ago, he had no estate but just within three years,
he owns the largest private estate in Nigeria."

Obi said that the presidential candidate of the APC, Major General
Muhammadu Buhari, is incapable of handling the chal-lenges of the
office of the Presi-dent in a 21st century.

"The retirement age in Nige-ria 65 years but the APC wants to cajole
Nigerians into voting a man who has exceeded the age of retirement. We
need to re-mind them that Aso Rock Villa is not an Old People's Home.
It is a place people go to work, not where people go to retire. How
would Nigerians in this era vote and relate with a man who knows
little or nothing about the Facebook or the internet? We are not even
talking about his credentials and certificates they want to gloss
over. It's a tragedy waiting to happen."

Responding to the allegations against Okorocha, Onwuemeodo who is a
Senior Special Adviser to Governor Okorocha on media, sent a test
message to the Daily Times which read: "There is an office in this
country that has the debt profile of every state. And I am sure you
know. They can help you to know the truth. Obi has "Rochasphobia."
