The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC),
Professor Atahiru Jega, on Wednesday confirmed the readiness of the
electoral body to conduct the 2015 general elections scheduled to take
place next week.
Professor Jega gave the assurance at a meeting with Civil Society
Organisations in Abuja to assess INEC's preparedness for the conduct
of the elections, which is expected to begin on March 28.
The INEC boss, however, expressed concern over the security of the
personnel that will be deployed for the exercise, especially in the
north east where troops are currently battling to flush out boko haram
insurgents.
INEC had announced the postponement of the elections which had been
scheduled for February 14 due to security concerns.
The electoral umpire had announced a shift in the general elections
dates to March 28 and April 11.
The new schedule was announced after Prof Jega met with political
stakeholders in Abuja on February 7.
Professor Jega said that the Presidential Election would hold on March
28 while the Governorship election would hold on April 11.
