Victim Of Abia State Shooting Hospitalised

A young man and a barber by profession has been shot in the leg after
fracas broke out at Umuojiocha village square, Ndioruh, in Ikwuano
Local Government Area of Abia State.

The victim, which was shot on Monday, is presently receiving treatment
at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC),Umuahia the State capital.

Briefing reporters, the Abia State government, through the
Commissioner for Information, Mr Anthony Agbazuere, strongly condemned
the act of violence, pointing fingers at the opposition party, the All
Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) campaign train for the misfortune.

He said that the introduction of violence and shooting in politicking
was away from the norm and warned mischief makers to retract their
steps, as the State government would no longer condone such violence
and shooting that could harm lives and lead to destruction of
property.

Mr Agbazuere reminded the political parties and their candidates of
the need to be guided by a peace accord that they had entered into.

While narrating how the incident happened, the victim said: "There was
fracas and confusion at the area as if some political parties were at
loggerheads", but he could not ascertain which party or who was
responsible for the bullet that hit him.

The police has started investigation into the incident.

It was gathered that the information made available to the police
revealed that when some supporters of the opposition party, APGA, were
campaigning at Ndioruh in Ikwuano Local Government Area, some
miscreants under unknown disguise attacked the APGA supporters,
smashing the their vehicles.

The Police spokesman in the State, Godfrey Ogbonna, however, urged
political parties and their supporters to always abide by the rules
and avoid any incident that could cause violence.
