Martins Breaks Record, Ogbeche Shines

Out-of-favour Super Eagles striker Obafemi Martins on Saturday broke
Seattle Sounders' goal-scoring record.

Martins notched two goals and assist at home to Chivas USA to give
Sounders a 4-2 win in their Major League Soccer clash and consolidate
their spot on top of the Western Conference with four matches left
before the post-season.

The 29-year-old now has 15 goals and 10 assists in 27 league games,
with his brace breaking Sounders' single-season scoring record of 14
set by Eddie Johnson in 2012.
Martins, who strengthened his case for the MLS Most Valuable Player
award, helped his American club claim their fourth US Open Cup title
in six seasons recently.

Meanwhile, former Nigeria forward Bartholomew Ogbeche scored to
salvage a point for his Dutch club Cambuur at Excelsior on Sunday in a
game that ended in a 1-1 draw, africanfootball.comreports.

Ogbeche now has three goals in seven games so far in Dutch Eredivise.

He scored two goals in 10 games last season.

Cambuur are now seventh in the league table with 12 points from seven
games, while Excelsior are 11th with nine points.

Ogbeche, who at 18 featured for Nigeria at Korea/Japan 2002 World Cup,
scored Cambuur equaliser when he hit the back of the net in the 62nd
minute.

The 29-year-old striker has played for Xerez (Spain), Middlesbrough
(England), Cadiz, Real Valladolid, Deportivo Alaves (all in Spain), Al
Jazira (Qatar), Metz, PSG and Bastia (all in France).

In Greece, former Flying Eagles captain Abdul Jeleel Ajagun was on
the scoresheet as Panathinaikos beat Niki Valou 1-0 in the Greek
League on Sunday.

Also on Sunday, Sylvester Igboun was on target as FC Midtjyland
defeated visiting FC Vestsjaelland 1-0 in the Danish league.

In the domestic league, Ighodaro Osaguona is now only five goals shy
of the all-time goals record in the eague after he fired his 15th goal
of the season on Sunday.

Osaguona scored for Enugu Rangers what will prove to be the match
winner in the first half against FC Taraba on Sunday.

Jude Aneke holds the all-time record of 20 goals, which he scored
three seasons ago.

But the former Shooting Stars striker is now just five goals away from
reaching that milestone with nine rounds of matches still to be played
this season.

"I want to erase the 20-goal league record set by Jude Aneke,"
Osaguona said recently.

However, the Rangers star has to keep looking over his shoulders too
as other strikers are also finding the target regularly.

Warri Wolves striker Gbolahan Salami is on 14 goals and will hope to
add to his tally when his team's clash against Abia Warriors is played
Monday morning after it was rained off on Sunday.

Dolphins striker Emem Eduok scored his 13th goal of the campaign
against Nasarawa United after he fired home a brace.
