INEC Considers April 18 For Run-Off Elections In Imo, Abia, Taraba

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, may have
scheduled the run-off governorship elections in three states, Imo,
Abia and Taraba, where last Saturday's elections were declared
inconclusive, for next Saturday.

The April 18 proposed date was yet to be officially confirmed as
sources in the commission told Vanguard yesterday that senior
officials, who should take the decision, were yet to meet on the
development.

INEC had declared the Imo State gubernatorial election inconclusive
following the cancellation of results from 216 polling units that cut
across 23 local governments with about 144 accredited voters.

In Abia State, the polls were declared inconclusive because the state
electoral officer was said to have earlier cancelled the results from
Obioma Ngwa, Isiala Ngwa and Osisioma Ngwa local government area, only
to later authenticate the results, a development that led to protests
by members of All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA.
