The last may not have been heard about Governor, Rochas Okorocha's
next political destination following the outcome of the 8th National
Assembly inauguration ceremony held at Aso Rock villa, Abuja on
Tuesday 9th June, 2015 where the minority party, the People's
Democratic Party (PDP) produced the first ever Deputy Senate President
in the history of Nigeria democracy while the ruling All Progressive
Congress (APC) produced the Senate President.
After the emergence of Senator Olusola Saraki as the Senate President
(APC) Senator Ike Ekweremadu as Deputy (PDP) and Rt Hon Yakubu Dogara
(APC) as the Speaker of the House of Representatives, a political
analyst and People's Democratic Party chieftain in Imo State, Chief
Elvis Agukwe who was at the chambers during the inauguration of the
newly elected national lawmakers in a phone interview with our
correspondent, noted that Imo State Governor, Owelle Anayo Rochas
Okorocha may likely dump APC for PDP to fine-tune his presidential
ambition in 2019.
"Despite Okorocha's position as the chairman of APC Governor's Forum,
he cannot influence APC leaders to achieve his personal interest. His
plan is to succeed President Mohammadu Buhari in 2019, but he has no
chance in APC. So, Okorocha may come back to PDP. Imolites should
expect political revolution soon. Okorocha did not work for the
secession of Senator Ike Ekweremadu for the Deputy Senate President
position nor worked for the key positions for South East zone", Chief
Agukwe argued.
The Orlu zone-born politician attributed the National Assembly
leadership election as first of its kind maintaining that President
Buhari stayed clear while the lawmakers elected their leaders.
"It was victory for democracy. How can somebody shop for the House
Speakership position from Lagos whereas the vice President hails from
there? PDP lawmakers united themselves an d voted for their candidates
while factions halted APC lawmakers from clinching deputy senator
president seat.
Political god fathers learnt lessons from the conduct of the election.
President Buhari has also taught state governors lessons by asking
them to appoint their cabinet members while he shops for his own
cabinet members", he submitted.
Reacting on Imo State House of Assembly inauguration, Chief Agukwe
exclusively told Trumpeta that the just concluded House of Assembly
led by Ben Uwajumogu was the worst House in the history of Imo State
stressing that Imolites are no longer afraid of Okorocha's imposition
of the House Speaker. "We are not surprised that he was Okorocha's
rubber stamp Speaker", he concluded.
