The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested a
former governor of Imo State, Ikedi Ohakim who is being interrogated
by operatives of the Commission at its head office in Abuja.
The arrest was carried out by operatives of the Commission who took
him from his Asokoro residence in Abuja at about 8am onThursday.
EFCC spokesman Wilson Uwujaren who confirmed the arrest, noted that
Ohakim was arrested after he failed to honour an invitation to appear
at the EFCC offices on Wednesday 17th June.
Uwujaren explained that the former governor is being interrogated by
detectives of the anti graft agency over allegations of financial
crimes when he held sway as governor of Imo state between 2007 and
2011.
He said of particular interest to the Commission are issues of
properties acquisitions alleged to have been done by the ex-governor.
Uwujaren also confirmed that the former governor of Jigawa state, Sule
Lamidoon Thursdaymorning submitted himself at the Abuja head offices
of the EFCC.
He said both Ohakim and Lamido were being concurrently questioned by
operatives of the EFCC over allegations of financial crimes.
Uwujaren said Lamido was being quizzed over his involvement in the
award of contracts when he was Jigawa state governor to companies
which were connected to his family members.
He recalled that the sons of the former governor were arrested last
year over financial crimes and pilfering of the state government funds
and laundering same through their company accounts.
