Jonathan Rules Out Investigation Of Leaked Auido On Ekiti Polls, Says It Was "Fabricated"

President Goodluck Jonathan has ruled out the possibility of ordering
an investigation into the scandalous leaked audio tape of the alleged
collusion between officers of the Nigerian Army and chieftains of the
Peoples Democratic Party to rig last year's June 21 governorship
election in Ekiti State.

President Jonathan told The Wall Street Journal that the audio was a
fabrication in spite of the confirmation of its authenticity by a
U.S.-based voice-verification firm, Guardian Consulting LLC.

"It's all fabrications", Mr. Jonathan, who is seeking reelection on
the platform of the PDP, said of the audio. "Why should I investigate
things that are not real?"

The president's unexpected indifference to the scandal that has raised
questions about his much-touted belief in free, fair and credible
elections, elicited melancholic reaction from no one else but Dr.
Kayode Fayemi, governorship candidate of the All Progressives
Congress, who allegedly lost the poll to Governor Ayodele Fayose of
the PDP.

"It's very sad", Fayemi told the Wall Street Journal. "The military
has lost any democratic control".
