Suicide Bombers Kill 14 In Biu

Two suicide bombers, riding on Keke Napep (tricycle) who canceled
Improvised Explosive Devices on their body, rammed into a military
checkpoints along Miringa- Biu road killing 14 people including two
members of Civilian JTF and injuring several others mostly hawkers and
men of Civilian JTF. Senator Ali Ndume has said.

Sources also said the incident which took place at about 1pm on
Tuesday left no fewer than 14 people mostly hawkers of groundnuts,
garden eggs among others.Sources added that two members of civilian
JTF including a female vigilante who were assisting the military
operatives also lost their lives in the explosion.

Miringa, is along the Damaturu- Buni Yadi- Biu road . Buni Yadi and
its environs were captured and are still under Boko Haram control
since July last year, while Biu is about south of Maiduguri, the Borno
state capital.

Last week Thursday, 12th February, 2015, a female suicide bomber hit a
crowded market in Biu killing 8 people with injuring of 15 others.

Sources said, the suicide bombers who disguised as a commercial taxi
drivers managed to enter the long queue as a result of strict security
checks at the entrance of the town, and when they were asked to park
for thorough check by men of the civilian JTF, they humbly alighted
from the tricycle before detonating their explosives simultaneously.

A resident of Mbulamyel ward of Biu which is not far from the seen,
Mallam Ali Usman said, " I saw a military vehicles conveying the dead
and the injured to Biu General Hospital at about 1:30pm, but I cannot
give you the exact figure of casualty as the vehicles was moving with
high speed heading inside town". He said.

Confirming the incident, Senator representing the area, Senator
Mohammed Ali Ndume told Journalists that 14 people including the
suicide bombers were killed with several others sustained injuries in
the twin explosions, but the Caretaker Chairman of Biu Local
Government Area, Alhaji Kumar Kadafur (Manager) who visited the scene
insisted that 9 people including the female member of civilian JTF
were killed in the explosions, while the injured are currently
receiving treatment at Biu General hospital.
